Almost a year from opening the Mathare Art Gallery, after numerous projects initiated by European artists and curators, the Mathare Art Gallery initiates the “ARTISTS” project – a cycle of exhibitions and encounters created by Kenyan artists during which the Mathare Art Gallery is going to become a dynamic space of exchange and experiment, open to every initiative. ARTISTS offers the opportunity to artists and creators which they are lacking in their everyday life – to share their work with friends and neighbours as well as with the entire world community.

Every fortnight, or thereabout, the Mathare Art Gallery will be entrusted into the hands of another artist, which will likely allow us to construct a new picture of extra-institutional art in Kenya.
